It’s finally Spring! That time of the year where we can feel overwhelmed with clutter and the heavy cloak of winter still hanging on to our shoulders. Nothing is more satisfying with deep cleaning your space and welcoming the season of growth.
Our homes can be a reflection of our inner selves and how we are feeling at a deep level. We hold on to items that we should be letting go. Getting rid of clutter helps to clean our minds and have more space to grow.

1.Make a list of all of the things that need a change
What spaces do you want to attack? Just your bedroom or is it your living room too? Prioritize the worst areas because if you start with the easiest or least messy, you may never get around to the areas that truly need attention.
2. Attack one area at a time
Though we may think we are great multitaskers, humans are actually not very good at juggling tasks. Decide which spot is first and commit yourself wholeheartedly to cleaning it. Imagine how good it will feel when an ENTIRE room is cleaned out. It won’t feel as good if you half clean two rooms and it will hang over you with unfinished business.
3. Utilize organization and storage containers, but ONLY IF YOU NEED IT
It is so enticing to buy a bunch of containers and organizational knick knacks but there is a right way and a wrong way to use them. If you buy these items, you are essentially adding on more “stuff” too your life (which is what you are trying to avoid!) That being said, if you find yourself needing a better way to display the stuff you have decided to keep, organizational storage can be a great tool!
For example, let’s say you have been keeping all of your shoes in your bedroom on an area rug. They add clutter to the room and you are constantly tripping to get past them. A hanging closet rack can get these shoes somewhere in their own space and reduce open bedroom clutter.
4. Donate!
Read up on local donation spots and avoid putting everything in the trash. Though it’s certainly easier to throw everything away, another person may be in need of what you have. Plus its not environmentally friendly to just dump everything you don’t want. As a college student, I would go to local donation spots to look for furniture for my room. I found some great stuff that I would never have been able to afford if I bought it from a store. If your old items are in good condition, pass them on to someone new!
5. Tech de-clutter
Technology is often overlooked when spring cleaning but it can feel equally as good if you have tons of old stuff on it. I know I personally have a lot of unintentional screenshots of my phone screen and old memes that are just taking up space. If your phone has gathered up useless data, old apps you don’t use, and junk photos, set aside some time towards deleting.
