Summer is known as that time of the year where we want to travel, have fun, and relax. Though it may be a generally happier time of the year, it is not immune to our negative thoughts and tough times. This list of affirmations aims to remind yourself of the positivity you can obtain and that you are strong enough to take control of your happiness!

Be Less Passive in Your Daily Life
What I mean by this is don’t just wake up and go about your day without feeling it. Bring more intention to your life! This can be as simple as creating a single goal to your day. A goal that is outside the realm of chores and to-do lists. Think along the line of “Today, I want to focus on my breathing and tension more” or “Today, I am going to be more confident at my job”. Yes these are vague, but you can tailor them to what is going on in your personal life. Its okay to be vague, or super specific, just bring more intention into your daily life and you will slowly feel like you are living with more of a purpose.
Be a Beacon for Positivity
If you see a color you like, imagine it pouring into you and becoming a part of you. If you hear your favorite song on the radio, do the same. As you go about your day, try to absorb all of the little things that make you smile. From when you wake up and taste that first sip of coffee, sip it like its the best thing you’ve ever tasted. I know it sounds cheesy but visualizing all of your favorite things about your day make them all that more special. It can be energizing and empowering to absorb positivity throughout your day.
Appreciate the Nature and Sun
It’s super easy to lose touch with nature. Our relationship to nature has been linked to higher levels of happiness. There’s something at the core of feeling the soil under our feet and hearing the serene quietness of a walk in the park that brings us closer to ourselves. You don’t have to drop everything and live your life in the woods! If it is a nice day out, maybe make it your intention for the day to go for a walk with no social media for 30 mins. Or instead of taking your phone take a journal like this summer story journal and sit somewhere under a tree and let your mind wander on the pages. If you have a nice park near your work, take your lunch outside if you can and get more of that fresh air! Sometimes it’s the little ways we change our days that can impact our satisfaction in life.

HAVE FUN OFTEN
What I love about summer is that it gives me opportunities to do my favorite things that I can’t do in other seasons. Beach, lakes, hiking, jogging, kayaking, road-tripping, and roasting marshmallows on a fire. I live in the Northeast of the U.S. where I can’t do a lot of that during the winter (at least without being freezing and uncomfortable). Take advantage of your opportunities and do what you love! It is also a time where many students/ teachers/ etc. are on break. Use the summer to recharge and do what you may not have had time for while working away for months!
